Why does China seem to be more obsessed with its ancient history than any other once-great nations?
Because China falsified most of its history. In fact, China has less than 2,000 years of history. In 221 BC Qui Shi Huang defeated other countries in the area and formed China. Before that, there were multiple other countries, each with its own people, king, border, and government. China refers to those other countries at the time as “dynasties”, but in reality, they were independent countries with their own people, kings and borders that existed at the same time.
Further, since China was first formed in 221 BC, it was broken back into multiple independent countries multiple times. For instance, by the time Genghis Khan started his conquest in the 1200s, China already ceased to exist and was broken back into at least four countries that existed at the same time. They were the kingdoms of Dali, Western Xia, Jin, and Song. Each of these countries had its own people, king, government, and border. But China falsified these independent countries as so-called “dynasty”.
Genghis Khan and his descendants such as Kublai Khan then conquered these countries in China. However, China did not want to admit that it was already broken into independent countries and were ruled by Mongolians as part of the Mongolian Empire. So it falsified its history by claiming that era was ruled by the so-called Yuen “dynasty” to make it appeared as if it was ruled by Chinese when in fact it was not the case.
Another such falsification of China’s history is its occupation and ruled by the Manchus as if it was just another Chinese dynasty. The fact is the Machus are different from Chinese and were an independent country until the 1600s with their own people, king, language, culture, and border. In the 1600s the Manchus conquered China and ruled it until the 1900s. If WWII did not occur, the Manchus would continue to rule China. However, China did not want to admit that it was ruled by foreign people, so it falsified its history again to make the Machus’ rule appeared as another Chinese so-called “dynasty”.
Further, when you subtract the 100 years rule by Mongolians, 300 years’ rule by the Manchus, and hundreds of years that China was broken back into independent countries multiple times between 221 BC and the 1600s, China’s actual history and existence is only about 1,200 years. Moreover, China’s existence and history is not continuous. It actually consists of multiple disjoint time periods with hundreds of years in between that 2,000 years where there were history of China, histories of broken-up independent countries, and histories as ruled by other countries (Mongolians and Manchus).
In fact, the real China’s history consists of multiple disjoint time periods and was not continuous as it claims.
It’s continuous because the identity of 中国 has existed since the Zhou dynasty and the identity of 华夏 people has existed since the Warring States.
It existed before Qin Shi Huang and existed during the
I don’t think China is more obsessed than any other countries. Search “Cultural Revolution”.
It is the Chinese ethnic that valued their history. Well, they should when their “race” or “ethnicity” is something that they inherited from thousand of years ago. It would be like the Mediterranean people called themselves as a Roman people instead of being an Italian, French, Spaniard and etc.
And they should because their heritage and history are what made them “invincible” toward foreign power.
And I am glad they did cause they would be just another people without any identity that set them apart from other if they don’t.
Plus, who wouldn’t valued their history when it is such a long history that was continually passed down for such a long time.
